2025    Turners

This regatta (to complement the existing Great Twelve Sailing Challenge) was founded in 2025 by the Ironmongers Company as a regatta for all the livery companies, except the Great Twelve, who charter the 12 Mermaids owned by the Sea View YC. The Mermaid is a 26-foot half-open keelboat, usually raced with a crew of three/four.

It is organised by the City Livery YC in partnership with the Seaview YC. Livery Companies are invited to send a team of four to compete in one of the Sea View Yacht Club’s matched fleet of 12 Mermaids.

Hence there will be a knock out competition over four races to allow up to 24 livery crews to take part.

The Mermaid, a half open keelboat displacing 1.5 tonnes with built in buoyancy making them inherently safe but safe and exciting to sail. Racing in this kind of fixed keel open day boat may be described as something between dinghy racing and offshore cruiser races, perhaps combining the best elements of each.
